Ms. Nahounha Alexandre

NHMW Founder 2020

Our founder Ms.Nahounha Alexandre holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Justice and Sociology, from The State University of New York at Oswego. As a person who views the world through a black feminist lens, she has always had a passion for social justice, that relates to the quality of life for black women. With years of experience navigating the socio-economic systems put in place to aid single mothers. In 2020 she founded The Nahounha Haven for Minority Women inc. (NHMW) A non-profit organization that prioritize young black women and young single black mothers. NHMW empowers young black women allowing them an increased chance to secure their American Dream. Wether that be, being single mothers who are independent of the welfare system or those who may be relying on the current welfare system to make ends meet. When asked what is the purpose of this organization Ms. Alexandre stated “regardless of where in life black women are, our purpose here, is to help all black women live in this world being able to provide a life for themselves and their children that they can be proud of”.

What sets the organization apart from others is the holistic yet evidence based focus on black women’s lives. At its inception all the members of the organization benefit from an approach that values black women and their financial; political, social, parental, physical health, and mental health goals, among other goals. This organization presents reliable information, seeks out and provides necessary resources in a comprehensive and easily digestible manner. Ms. Alexandre believes it imperative for the quality of life of black women especially single mothers to be prioritized and improved. As a single black mother herself, who has in the past worked for organizations that failed black women. Ms.Alexandre has made it her mission and that of The Nahounha Haven for Minority Women Inc. to achieve an improved quality of life for black women.
